Louise Kitchin secures Fraud conviction in HMP Strangeways compensation scam.

The defendant, a convicted drug dealer, stated he fell from his bunk bed whilst asleep on 1st April 2013.

After seeing an advert in a prison newspaper, he contacted a firm of personal injury lawyers telling them he had fallen from the top bunk in his cell and to make a claim for compensation on his behalf. Unfortunately for the defendant, medical records showed that he had sustained the injury almost 12 hours before when he had been restrained by 3 prison officers in the exercise yard at HMP Strangeways.

He pleaded not guilty to Fraud but was convicted by the jury after trial and was sentenced to 9 months imprisonment.
