Kate Blackwell QC successfully prosecutes 2 prison officers for misconduct in a public office which led to them each receiving suspended sentences of imprisonment.
Shaun Percy and Lisa Percy were convicted of the offence which involved Shaun Percy failing to make appropriate checks on suicide watch inmates, one of whom hanged himself. Lisa Percy, a prison manager, then falsified records to cover her husband’s tracks.
By the time of sentence both defendants were in ill health and had lost their home, their jobs and the majority of their pension rights. They were each sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for 2 years, ordered to perform 200 hours community work and ordered to abide by a night time curfew for 6 months.
