Dan Thomas wins “Hedge Wars” private appeal
In a privately funded appeal, Alex Leaver was acquitted of assault by beating before the Crown Court at Burnley last week. In an unusual case, Mr. Leaver had been convicted of assaulting his neighbour by spraying her with water from a garden hose whilst she was cutting Leylandii trees dividing their respective properties. After a contested hearing at Burnley Crown Court, Mr. Leaver’s appeal was allowed and he retained his good character.
A successful application for defence costs was made on Mr. Leaver’s behalf.
Dan Thomas was instructed by Southerns Solicitors, Burnley.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the issues involved, the case was heavily reported in sections of the national press.
