Brendan O’Leary Secures Acquittal of Client After 4-Week Trial on Conspiracy to Burgle ATMs

After a month long trial in Carlisle Crown Court, Brendan O’Leary, instructed by Stephen Lickrish and Associates, secured the acquittal of his client on an allegation of conspiracy to burgle ATMs.

The conspiracy involved the targeting of ATMs at various locations throughout Cumbria over the period of a year. The gang used heavy plant machinery, tractors, and cutting equipment to knock down walls of premises and remove the ATMs.

The evidence against Brendan’s client involved forensic links to multiple items used in the attacks, mobile phone communication, presence during the reconnoitring of premises, and items found in the defendant’s possession at the time of his arrest.

Brendan successfully cross-examined the forensic experts in order to undermine what appeared to be compelling evidence against his client. Brendan also secured concessions from the prosecution which limited the effect of the other strands of evidence relied upon the prosecution.
