Alistair Webster Q.C. Represents Dean Saunders in Successful Appeal
On 4th October, Alistair Webster QC successfully conducted the appeal of Dean Saunders, former football star, league manager and television pundit, against a sentence of 10 weeks’ imprisonment imposed upon him by the magistrates for failing to produce a specimen of breath.
Alistair presented the appeal to the Crown Court at Chester.
Alistair Webster QC said of the case:
“Many people were rather shocked by the sentence imposed by the magistrates, but it was in line with the relevant sentencing guidelines. When the case was referred to me, it was obvious that there was a significant amount of mitigation which needed to be presented to the court, not least the fact that Dean did a lot of work for charity. It was surprising that this had not been presented to the magistrates, and it had a significant effect upon the outcome of the case”.
Alistair Webster QC represented Mr. Saunders under the Direct Access Scheme.
