Holly Nelson Prosecutes 31 Defendants As Part of Operation Alberta
Holly Nelson, led by Barbara Webster of 15 Winckley Square Chambers, prosecuted 31 defendants arrested in relation to a wide-scale drug production, supply, and burglary conspiracy based in East Lancashire.
From May 2022 through three trials and a week-long sentencing exercise concluding in November 2023, 31 defendants were convicted and sentenced in relation to their involvement in the organised crime group which operated over a 14-month period and was involved in the supply of well over 200kg of cannabis, and the industrial scale production of the drug.
The OCG further inflicted violence on other suppliers of cannabis in the area, often involving the use of firearms and weapons to ensure success in the regular ‘taxings’ of rival gangs, and the compliance of the gardeners of the properties burgled.
Lead defendants received sentences in excess of eight years’ imprisonment.
