Traditionally, the Bar has been a referral profession with advocates only able to act on instructions from a solicitor, not directly on behalf of a client. With a change in the legal profession, some members can now accept instructions, on appropriate cases, on a ‘Direct Access’ basis, that is on the direct instruction of members of the public.
