BAFTA Award for Rochdale OCG Film Maker
A film-maker, whose work retold the fall of an Organised Crime Group, has been honoured by the Film and Television Academy with a BAFTA.
Benedict Sanderson’s photography for ’The Detectives: Taking Down an OCG” received the award at BAFTA’s ceremony for TV craft. The programme aired on BBC in November 2023. It recounted the story of Police operations against the notorious Rochdale Adam Line gang. The public were gripped by the unfolding story of the inquiry, which included an axe attack on an innocent man in the Newbold district of Rochdale. On receiving his award, Sanderson paid tribute to the officers who had driven the inquiry. He also spoke movingly of Cameron Brooksbank, whose courage in testifying against his attackers, had helped secure the convictions of key members of the gang, including Mohammed Awais Sajid.
Tim Storrie KC and Louise Cowen successfully prosecuted Sajid and Others at the Crown Court for the Crown Prosecution Service North West.
An attempt to appeal the conviction, by Sajid, in November 2023, before the Court of Appeal Criminal Division, failed.
Tim Storrie KC appeared for the Crown Prosecution Service Special Appeals Unit.
