Henry Blackshaw secures £1 million recovery under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA)

This was the final stage of a case which was first listed before Bolton Crown Court in 2014. The defendants were convicted and sentenced for cultivating cannabis in houses controlled by their letting agency.

They had asserted that they had been operating under the direction and for the benefit of a “Triad” gang, rather than their own behalf. This was rejected by the sentencing judge, following a ten day hearing to determine their level of culpability.

The subsequent POCA proceedings had taken almost two years to complete because of the scale of the task to ascertain their benefit from past offending and the level of property ownership between them, against which monies could be recovered.
