Kate Blackwell QC “Dragged into Court” to become a Master of the Bench of Lincoln’s Inn
At a lunchtime ceremony in the Old Hall at Lincoln’s Inn, Kate Blackwell was yesterday (Monday, 18 December 2017) appointed a Bencher of the Inn.
Having enjoyed pre-lunch drinks with Lord Justice McCombe, Lord Justice Davies, Lord Neuberger (current President of the Supreme Court) and her supporters from Chambers, Alistair Webster QC, Kevin Donnelly, Rod Priestley and Leila Ghahhary, Kate then participated with great dramatic flair in the ancient tradition of being “dragged into court”.
With Lord Justice Davies on one arm and Lord Justice McCombe on the other, she was
frogmarched to high table in the Hall, struggling all the way.
Having reluctantly (as tradition demands…) accepted the honour bestowed upon her and received the applause of the Hall, she joined the benchers for lunch.
Kate will undertake committee work at the Inn in the New Year and hopes to make a positive and lasting contribution, working to develop and enhance the educational and pastoral functions of the Inn.
