Maura McGowan QC Named Vice Chairman-Elect of the Bar Council
[intro]Maura McGowan QC has been named the Vice Chairman-Elect of the Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, following a contested election. She will take up the post of Vice Chairman on 1 January 2012.[/intro]
Maura McGowan QC was called to the Bar in 1980 and took silk in 2001. She is a criminal practitioner Lincoln House Chambers in Manchester and at 2 Bedford Row in London . She has extensive experience in all areas of crime most notably murder, drugs, violent and sexual assault and child abuse. A Deputy High Court Judge since 2010 and a Recorder since 1996, she is an elected member of the Bar Council (serving on the Law Reform Committee and as a Vice-Chairman of the Professional Practice Committee). She is the Director of Education and Training for the South Eastern Circuit and a serving committee member of the Criminal Bar Association. She is also Called to the Irish Bar.
