MR JEREMY LASKER SECURES THE ACQUITTAL OF A HUSBAND CHARGED WITH RAPING HIS WIFE OVER A 10 YEAR PERIOD
A man who initially went to the police in a dishonest attempt to frame his wife for planning to kill him has been acquitted by the jury of 10 counts of Rape following a trial at Preston Crown Court in December 2015, in which the Prosecution had alleged that throughout the course of the marriage the Defendant had subjected his wife to non-consensual sexual intercourse.
The allegations of rape only came to light after the Defendant had himself been to the police claiming that he had discovered that his wife had been in contact with a variety of men on social media sites via the internet and in the course of which a plan was hatched to murder him.
Unbeknown to his wife, none of the men with whom she was communicating over a 3 year period actually existed, and were in fact created by the Defendant himself who had made up a variety of aliases on social media.
It was only after the Defendant’s wife was arrested by the police on suspicion of conspiracy to murder that she disclosed to them that she had herself been the victim of sexual abuse and was forced throughout the marriage to have sexual intercourse even though she was not consenting.
At trial, although the Defendant accepted he had deceived his wife over many years and had lied to the police in making false allegations about her, he denied the allegations of rape.
Jeremy Lasker was instructed by Mr Peter King of Roebucks Solicitors, Accrington.
