Northern Ireland Module of Covid Inquiry Hears Closing Submissions

The Northern Ireland Module of the UK Covid Inquiry in Belfast heard the closing submissions from a number of key Core Participants yesterday.

Our Brenda Campbell KC led a team of counsel representing the Northern Irish Covid Bereaved Families for Justice, instructed by PA Duffy & Co Solicitors. Her closing submissions can be viewed on the Covid Inquiry Youtube site here.

The Module explored how the NI Devolved Assembly responded to the global health pandemic between 2020 and 2022, including: whether delays by the Johnson Government in Westminster negatively impacted the Northern Irish response; whether after years of neglect and in the absence of the power-sharing government between 2017 – 2020, civil contingencies in NI were fit for purpose; whether more could and should have been done to protect older people and the disabled, particularly those living in care homes; and whether the NI response was stymied by party politics and sectarianism.
