Richard Butcher and Matthew Corn Secure Acquittal in Substantial Pension Fraud Case
Operation Utah was an investigation by the police’s North-East Regional Organised Crime Unit into the operation of a pension scheme called the BTS Workplace Trust Pension Scheme. It was the longest ever trial in Newcastle (154 days) and involved an allegation of conspiracy to defraud pension holders. The prosecution case was challenged root and branch and the jury unanimously acquitted all defendants of the conspiracy.
